Geopuesto
Antipodal observation system — click anywhere on Earth and see what's on the exact opposite side. Live weather, recent earthquakes, satellites overhead, internet radio playing right now, ISS position, Mapillary photos, and 15+ more data layers. Plus 'Your Personal Equator' — the great circle of cities exactly equidistant from you and your antipode.
My role
I designed the spherical-geometry calculations, integrated the public data services, and built the responsive Leaflet interface.
Approach
Geopuesto started as a one-line antipode calculator and grew into a full-screen geographic discovery tool. A map click, coordinate, search, or current location produces the antipode and adds context from public services: reference material, imagery, weather, air quality, daylight, earthquakes, volcanoes, aircraft, vessels, satellites, radio, and street-level photos. The Personal Equator module draws the great circle perpendicular to the antipodal axis and finds cities that are approximately equidistant from the selected point and its antipode — for Salem, MA that ring samples a 33,000-city dataset down to population centers within 100 km of the equator. A sibling Playground lab exposes the spherical-geometry kernel: two-point orthodromes, polyhedra on the sphere, and curve suites.
Result
A simple antipode calculator became a working geographic discovery product with live environmental, cultural, and transportation context.
